Bible Question: What is the Book of Enoch and if it is mentioned in Jude (v 14,15) why is it not included in the Bible? |
Bible Answer: Greetings again, prayon! Incidentally, the early church decided against the inclusion of the Book(s) of Enoch, if any of its Hebrew copies were even accessible at the time, in the collection of 'canon'. When the early church formally recognized what books belonged in the canon, there were five primary tests that were applied. They are: 1. Was the book written or backed by a prophet or apostle of God? 2. Is the book authoritative? 3. Does the book tell the truth about God as it is already known by previous revelation? 4. Does the book give evidence of having the power of God? 5. Was the book accepted by the people of God? Evidently, the Books of Enoch did not 'pass the test' in the view of the early church. Nolan |
