Bible Question: what is most important about the controversies concerning Jesus' humanity deity and person? |
Bible Answer: Mel, Christian doctrine is thet Christ is: One Divine Person, with two natures, divine and human. This is called the hypostatic union. All the Christological controversies are about heresies that deviate from that doctrine. The Arians claimed that Christ was no the true Son of God in the metaphysical substantial sense but only in an ethical sense. Others that denied Christ true divinity were Cerinthus, the Eboionites, the Dynamic or Adoption Monarchists. Some said that Christ had only a divine nature and was not truely human. These included the Mononphysites, the Gnostics, the Docetists, the Manichaeans and the Pricillianists. Othere heretical groups include the Nestorians who denied that Christ was one Person with two nature, saying that the son of Mary was not the son of God. They professed that in Christ there are thew two natures, but also two subject persons. These of course are great simplifications of more complex ideas, but thatmay give you some background. Emmaus |
