Bible Question: Can you explain creationism and traducianism to me? How do they relate to the modern controversy over abortion? When does human life begin? |
Bible Answer: Mel, Are you taking a test and asking for help or giving a test to us? Traducianism was a 4th century heresy that taught the souls of children are genereated naturally by their parents by procreation, just as their bodies are. This is opposed to the Christian teaching that each soul is created by God alone. Regarding abortion, those who favor it could use traducianism to argue that because the parents are creators of body and soul, they have the complete right and authority to abort and destoy both at their own discretion as if they were the creator gods. |
