Bible Question: Does God view bankruptcy as a legal form of stealing? The Bible instructs us, "Owe no man". I was head over hills in credit card debt which I could see no way out for many years. I had closed one department store card for approximately 3 years and, after such time, the balance reduced only approximately 500 with still an outstanding balance of 2,300. This particular credit card creditor charged an unreasonable and unfair amount of interest as did most the others. Another card creditor was closed for approximately 5 years to which the balance only reduced approximately 500 with an outstanding balance of 800. I feel these creditors have been paid for the merchandise, but the outstanding balance is pure interest which is stealing, in my opinion, from consumers. Do I attempt to pay these creditors one by one? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you. God bless you. |
Bible Answer: Psalms 37:21 I feel for you and agree with that overall "chicanery" used by many of these companies is wrong, nevertheless when we sign up for a credit card, we agree to thier terms no matter how unreasonable they may be. We have the option of not agreeing to those terms and to search for other means of finance. My brother got into many thousands of dollars worth of debt by credit cards when he got married 8 years ago. He quickly realized his mistake and changed his borrowing and spending habits, but still they are just now coming to the "victory mark" in paying these debts off. Many justify tax evasion by pointing out the unfairness of the government at times, but still Jesus paid his taxes even though He knew the government was corrupt. It is a good sign that you are concerned over this matter and shows you want to please God. |
