Bible Answer: Dear Thedeak, As far as I know, at this time in history people did not have surnames as we know them today. You would be called "son of" - "bar" or, you might carry the name of your town or profession to distinguish you from others with the same first name. For instance, Mary Magdalene was really Mary from Magdala or something like that. This distinguished her from the many Marys in Christ's group: His mother, etc. Jesus earthly family is mentioned in several places: Mathew 27:56; 13:55; Mark 6:3; 15:40 and 47; 16:1; Galatians 1:19.
