Subject: IS MICHAEL AND JESUS THE SAME PERSON? |
Bible Note: Art The answer is no! Jesus and Michael are not the same personage. Michael is an archangel as we see in Jude 1:9 But Michael the archangel, when he disputed with the devil and argued about the body of Moses, did not dare pronounce against him a railing judgment, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!" Rev. 12:7 And there was war in heaven, Michael and his angels waging war with the dragon. The dragon and his angels waged war, Jesus is the eternal Son of God as seen in John 1:1-6 and confirmed many other places in the gospels.. There is no small debate over the term "Angel of the Lord". The term itself does not appear after the birth of Jesus. In many cases the angel talks as God in the first person. While I see no confusion over whether this is Michael (he isn't identified anywhere as Michael) I do see it could be taken literally as an angel speaking for God as God spoke Himself. And the writer in an effort to emphasis the exactness with which the Angel delivers the message uses the first person context. Or it could be a preincarnate appearance of Jesus. There is absolutely nothing to suggest this is Jesus appearing as the Angel Michael. EdB |
