Subject: Welcome To New Guidelines |
Bible Note: Hank, I too would like to thank you for your wise words of wisdom on this matter. I believe our overiding principle should be that found in James 3:5-12. We do need to watch our toungues for the sake of others. Allow me to share some insight on this subject that is on my heart. Hopefully, I'm not just preaching to the choir! As a business owner for the past 15 years, I've dealt with and continue to interact with a significant number of people on a daily basis. One of the timeless classics that has helped me in this area is How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. Thought it is obviously a non-Biblical source, I believe he offers some sound advice when it comes to avoiding arguments: 1. Welcome the disagreement. 2. Distrust your first instinctive impression. 3. Control your temper. 4. Listen first. 5. Look for areas of agreement. 6. Be honest. 7. Promise to think over your opponents' ideas and study them carefully. 8. Thank your opponents sincerely for their interest. 9. Postpone action to give both sides time to think through the problem. As Proverbs 9:9 states, "Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser,Teach a righteous man and he will increase in learning". Speaking the Truth In Love, BradK |
