Bible Question: Is tithing still a "law" under the new covenant? |
Bible Answer: Tithing is not a new covenant idea. Since the priesthood has been changed then there of a necessity has to be a change of the law(Heb7:12). Tithes under the old covenant were given to the high priest and for the upkeep of the temple. Under the new covenant Jesus is our high priest and we no longer have an earthly temple but a heavenly temple. So how can any man bind a tax(tithe) on any other man. Now here's where it gets tricky. You are not to blindly give your money to any man just because he says to; preacher or not. What you are to do under the new covenant is help your enemies and your friends. So guess what if your neighbor or your enemy needs help you help them. Any way that can be manifested including money-wise is acceptable. If you go to a church where there is a light bill it just makes sense to give a little something to help pay it. I can tell you that all day long but no one can bind a percentage or amount on you. I hope this helps. God bless |
