Subject: Sola Scriptura supported by bible? |
Bible Note: Greetings Dschaertel! If I might be so bold as to answer for Joe (If I have mispoken Joe, please let me know), no one questions the fact that the Bible contains parables and that parables can teach spiritual truths. The problem is that parables are indentified in Scripture as being parables and not presented as history. Consider the following examples from Matthew: 1) Mt. 13:18 - "‘‘Listen then to what the parable of the sower means:" 2) Mt. 13:24 - "Jesus told them another parable: ‘‘The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field." 3) Mt. 13:53 - "When Jesus had finished these parables, he moved on from there." In these examples, we are either told by author that Jesus was speaking in parables, or by Christ Himself that He was speaking in parables, or tipped of by the word 'like' that a parable is being used. Where exactly does Gen. 1-2 use the word 'parable' or words such as 'like' or 'as' to indicate that a parable is being set forth? A normal reading would indicate that Gen. 1-2, like the rest of Genesis, is an historical account! This is why people are bothered by the term parable. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
