Bible Question:
2 Peter 1:1-9 I am confused. How could someone 1. Be barren and unfruitful but be saved.(Matt.7:19) 2."Forget" they are saved.(2 Cor. 13:5) 3.Lack all of the qualities listed (virtue, knowledge, self control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love, and be saved?) (Luke 3:8,Mark 4:20) Many other verses I could list if necessary. |
Bible Answer: salvation is our recognition that we are barren, and lacking in the fruits of the spirit in our life; that we need Jesus to bring us to a new birth. And, as new babes these things take time to grow in our lives. 2 Cor 13:5 tells us to test ourselves to see this growth -- to see if we are truely in the vine, and drawing of thelife-giveing power He speaks of in verse 4. That's just my meusing. I saw a study about testing ourselves : PROVE YOUR OWN SELVES. 2 COR. 13.5 This is a needful work. beware of the deceitfulness of the heart. This self-proving should be done-- 1. INSTANTLY. The secret of our failure should be searched out at once. 2. WILLINGLY. Are your prepared to know yourself? -- ready to have a sight of hidden sin? 3. CAREFULLY. Let no beloved sin decieve you. Judge each by their fruits. Don't label things hamless that are unholy. 4. FEARLESSLY. with the lamp of God's searching Word (Heb. 4:12) 5. MERCILESSLY. spare no Agag. Make confession. Acknowledge sin (Ps. 51:3). 6. HONESTLY. Be severe on the sin, but approve what is good. Distinguage between sin and infirmities. 7. PRAYERFULLY. Remember, the Lord alone can search the heart. "Search me, O God; try my heart," |
