Bible Question:
Is keep the sabbath a requirement for salvation ? Is it a sin to not keep the sabbath? |
Bible Answer: Elisah- I don't think keeping the Sabbath is mentioned in the New Testament (although the others are) as a commandment to keep. However, New testament scripture tells us to meet with other believers for fellowship, teaching, worship and keeping the rememberence of our Lord's death and resurrection. The day most Christians meet on is Sunday. If we don't go to church on Sunday we do not lose our salvation, but we are missing out on so much that the Lord would have for us - a chance to grow closer through Him and to Him, and to be edified and to give edification. When the Lord gives us information, it is a good idea to listen to Him. The Sabbath was given as a day of rest and to keep our minds and hearts fixed on Him. Keeping it holy is to be in His presence and to dwell in Him. I do think we should have one day of the week kept strictly for honoring Him - not in a legalistic sense, but with our hearts, knowing that the time of rest will deepen our spiritual walk with Him and give us power for the other six days of being in the world. |
