Bible Question:
Matthew 1 contains the bloodline of Jesus back to Abraham. If Jesus was born of Mary by the Holy Spirit how can this be in Josephs Genealogy? I've looked at Luke 3 and this gives another bloodline back to Adam but how does this fare nex t to Matthew 1? |
Bible Answer: Bryanz628 Hi and welcome to the forum. You need to do a search on genealogy and Jesus. Basically Matthews account traces Jesus bloodline through Joseph Jesus adoptive father establishing his legal right to the throne of David. Luke traces the bloodline through Mary's father and uses Joseph as his son. Notice the difference in the two Matthews account is through Solomon and the king's of Israel. Luke's account is through Nathan the righteous son of David. In Jewish culture the mother determined the religious upbringing of a child. Thus we have Matt giving Jesus Kingly progression, and Luke giving his Jewish progression. Jesus was truely David's heir, both to the throne and to his religion. EdB |
