Bible Question: The latest statistics show that there are over 20000 churches in existance in the world. Jesus prayed for His one church and there was only one apostolic church. I continue to here people like the "Bible Answer Man" say this is acceptable as long as they beleive the essentials. I find this and I'm sure the Lord finds this reprehencable at best. Whats the opinion out there. Why so many churches? |
Bible Answer: Todd N I have two opinions on this. First it saddens me to see the churches separated and many times talking against another. I think Jesus would surely want unity and desires us to work together. We would be a force to be reckoned with and be able to accomplish much in the name of Jesus. But there is problem here because of the size and inherent power Jesus wouldn’t be needed we could do it on our own. It would become our power and our might. The second thought I have is if all Christian denominations came together as one the resulting force would be so big, so powerful that man would surely corrupt it and used it for false purposes. I sometimes wonder if that isn't why God keeps us separate. Almost a tower of Babel like solution to how man handles power and might. With those two opinions stated let me say I agree with the CRI and the Bible Answer man, that as long as we agree on the essentials the divide over the non essentials seems less important. EdB |
