Bible Question:
I address this to anyone that has even a passing interest in Bible Translations. I was referred to this site by Makarios to whom I’m indebted, thank you! The discussion found at the site reveals the problems the translators are faced with when attempting to translate the Bible. It shows what can happen as attempts are made to make the passages understandable, the results can be a loss of the intended meaning of the writer. Please as I said before if you have even a passing interest in Bible translation please take the time to read this article. It is found at http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2001/013/5.28.html EdB |
Bible Answer: As long as God is in charge, you need never fear anything about "a loss of the intended meaning of the writer" when attempting to make passages understandable!" How many versions have come and gone...and how many people did each one reach at his or her own level of understanding before "fading from the scene?" I would venture to guess a great many souls have given their lives to Jesus because someone cared enough to make a bible more "understandable" for them. Once one becomes a Christian..."saved and sure"...then they can begin the path often traveled of learning how to grow in the faith..."milk vs. solid food." God will direct the reader in His Word, and the Holy Spirit will refine and guide them as to "word meanings" word by word, verse by verse. And folks, God really doesn't need our paltry efforts at suggesting that our way, or the highway is the best solution in these matters of translations for the common massess! He will make it all come together for all those who know and love Him...and in His own way and time. |
