Bible Question:
Several passages in the bible (especially the gospels) do not appear in early manuscripts (eg. end of Mark and a chapter of John which I can't remember at the moment- maybe someone else can). It is therefore doubtful that they were written by the original authors. Should we still look upon these parts as inspired by the Holy Spirit? |
Bible Answer: First off, you'd have to be specific as to which bible? New International Version? King James Version, Douay Rheims Version (oldest), American Standard, New American Standard, Gideon's, Young's Literal... the list goes on. I could be wrong but as far as I know the New Jerusalem Bible was the first (some time in the 1960's) to add in text from the Dead Sea Scrolls. Others followed suit. Again, as far as I know, those are also thought inspired. Lisa |
