NASB | Revelation 8:5 Then the angel took the censer and filled it with the fire of the altar, and threw it to the earth; and there followed peals of thunder and sounds and flashes of lightning and an earthquake. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Revelation 8:5 So the angel took the censer and filled it with fire from the altar, and hurled it to the earth; and there were peals of thunder and loud rumblings and sounds and flashes of lightning and an earthquake. [Lev 16:12; Ezek 10:2] |
Bible Question:
The only being I know of that the Bible says is in the temple in heaven and that mediates between God and man is Jesus. Wouldn't this "Angel" of Rev. 8:3-5 be a symbol for Jesus? If so then verse 5 actually shows that He stops his work of mediation right before the seven trumpets sound. Does this mean that once the "great tribulation" starts (the seven last trumpets and the seven last plagues) that this is the time when God's Spirit is taken from the earth and God no longer offers a fallen mankind the chance for repentance? Rev. 22:11 and 12 shows this also, right before Jesus comes. Does anyone else have any ideas about Rev. 8:3-5? |
Bible Answer: Greetings, Since the High Priest was the one who entered the Holy Place to burn incense on the altar, it might be referring to Jesus, the Christians High Priest. Maybe this isn't as important to know as is knowing that the prayers of the persecuted saints were being heard and answered. The first audience of this epistle found this to be good news since they were undergoing persecution: either from Nero or Domitian. I'm interested to hear your thoughts. God bless. |
