NASB | Revelation 4:3 And He who was sitting was like a jasper stone and a sardius in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, like an emerald in appearance. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Revelation 4:3 And He who sat there appeared like [the crystalline sparkle of] a jasper stone and [the fiery redness of] a sardius stone, and encircling the throne there was a rainbow that looked like [the color of an] emerald. [Ezek 1:28; Rev 21:11, 19] |
Bible Question: What significance does emerald have in Rev. 4:3 or any where else in the Bible? |
Bible Answer: Andy, the Apostle in Revelation 4:3 takes us back to references of the Old Testament rainbow. See Ezek.1:28 and Gen.9:12-17. There is no reason to believe that the rainbow that surrounded the throne, in this instance dominated by emerald-green hues, is any less symbolic of God's fidelity to His Word, His promises, and His covenants than it was in the days of Noah. --Hank |
