Bible Question (short): Why woe the rich and well-fed? |
Question (full): My Question is with reguards of Luke 6:24-26. 24 "But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort. 25 Woe to you who are well fed now, for you will go hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep. 26 Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for that is how their fathers treated the false prophets." I looked up in the dictionary that woe means sorrow. Why should sorrow be given to the rich, the well-fed and ones of good reputation? Was Jesus talking about the rich, well-fed and ones of good reputation in the general case or to those that were listening to Him at the time, either way I don't understand why "woe" be to them. |
