AMPLIFIED 2015 | Revelation 22:18 ¶ I testify and warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book [its predictions, consolations, and admonitions]: if anyone adds [anything] to them, God will add to him the plagues (afflictions, calamities) which are written in this book; [Deut 4:2] |
Bible Question: Does "add" to "this book" mean just Revelation or the entire Bible? |
Bible Answer: Greetings, In context, it's referring to the book of Revelations, warning us to be careful in how we handle the knowledge that it contains. However, it should stand as a reminder to us to properly use God's word and not to mishandle it's teachings by taking things out of context or to reading into the context what isn't there. Paul tells Timothy something similar in 2 Timothy 2:15 when he tells his young protégé to "rightly divide" or accurately handle the word of Truth. So, the idea of proper usage of God's word is not unique to the book of Revelation. Jalek |
