AMPLIFIED 2015 | Revelation 21:8 "But as for the cowards and unbelieving and abominable [who are devoid of character and personal integrity and practice or tolerate immorality], and murderers, and sorcerers [with intoxicating drugs], and idolaters and occultists [who practice and teach false religions], and all the liars [who knowingly deceive and twist truth], their part will be in the lake that blazes with fire and brimstone, which is the second death." |
Bible Question: Thanks Nolan? Since non-believers are already spiritually dead, what type of death is the 2nd death? |
Bible Answer: Toto: Sorry to jump is so late, but I just went to a class today where part of this was discussed! As others have written, the 2nd death is the death of the soul, the part of man that has the potential to be in a love relationship with God. (Lost in Eden) Without the regeneration of the Holy Spirit, upon physical death, man's soul passes into eternity apart from God. Until the white throne judgement, these lost souls wait in the side of Hades or Sheol called "torments." (See the story of Lazarus and the rich man in Luke 16.) If anyone's name was not found in the Lamb's Book (Rev. 21:27)of Life, they were thrown into the Lake of Fire, (and death and Hades were also thrown in) this is the second death - God's final judgement on sin resulting in eternal separation from God. (see Rev. 20) Think of a "black hole" from which nothing can escape. Utter darkness awaits those who reject the salvation God offers in Christ. Too often, we don't comprehend the horrific fate that awaits those who are "lost." I pray that God would raise our level of concern for those who don't know Jesus. We have one life, this side of eternity, to choose where we will spend it when we die! |
