AMPLIFIED 2015 | Revelation 21:8 "But as for the cowards and unbelieving and abominable [who are devoid of character and personal integrity and practice or tolerate immorality], and murderers, and sorcerers [with intoxicating drugs], and idolaters and occultists [who practice and teach false religions], and all the liars [who knowingly deceive and twist truth], their part will be in the lake that blazes with fire and brimstone, which is the second death." |
Bible Question: Thanks Nolan? Since non-believers are already spiritually dead, what type of death is the 2nd death? |
Bible Answer: Rev.20:6 Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years. (NASB copyright 1995 Lockman) Rev. 20:12 And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. (NASB copyright 1995 Lockman Foundation) Rev. 20:14-15 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. (NASB copyright 1995 Lockman Foundation) I believe the above sequence of verses may clearify what the second death is. When a person has turned from being led by their sin nature and desires placing the foundation of their being on Jesus and the salvation that He has given for all by His sacrifice, which was certified as acceptable to the Father in the resurrection, they receive the Holy Spirit being now at peace with the Father and exempt from the "great white throne" judgment of God described in Rev.20:11-15. Unsaved people walk around spiritually dead throughout this life, yet aware of their surroundings because their souls and bodies are still living. When their body is lost, their soul remains for judgment. For the unsaved death is a fearsome threat that lurks in the future. Unfortunatly when they pass from this life, they find they have a much more fearsome threat awaiting them. For the unsaved it is all a sequence of continuous loss, but for those saved through Christ Jesus it is a sequence of eternal growth and gain. God bless you, Bob |
