Bible Note: Hank: Proclaiming what nature and our consciences proclaim is definitely part of our work as ambassadors. Just as the Bible reveals in words what God has revealed in creation and our consciences (reinforcing it via special revelation), so are we to announce to our fellow humans what the Bible reveals. The way I see it is this: 1. General revelation given to all human beings reveals the glory of God in creation and His perfect moral law to all human beings via our consciences. Our unrighteous suppression of the truth underlying creation and failure to heed our consciences results in our just condemnation. Again, this applies to all men. 2. Special revelation was given to the nation of Israel and subsequently to all the world. This special revelation reiterates what the general revelation tells us about our condemnation. Note that this is not NEW information, but rather a reminder/reinforcement of what we already know. In addition to the message of our just condemnation, the special revelation (which is contained in the Bible) also provides the message of God's salvation which He provides through faith in the person and work of Christ Jesus. Therefore, God's judgment of humanity is an element of both general and special revelation, but the good news of God's gracious forgiveness of sinners is only found in the special revelation of God as seen in the Scriptures. The interesting thing that we have to note in light of Romans 10 is that whether one happens to be Arminian or Reformed, it is very clear that people cannot receive Christ unless Christ is preached to them. Therefore, we need to realize our important role as God's ambassadors, reavealing to all the world the special revelation which God has entrusted to us. In order for anyone to be saved, they must hear the gospel! --Joe! |
