AMPLIFIED 2015 | Revelation 18:2 And he shouted with a mighty voice, saying, "Fallen, fallen [certainly to be destroyed] is Babylon the great! She has become a dwelling place for demons, a dungeon haunted by every unclean spirit, and a prison for every unclean and loathsome bird. |
Bible Question: In rev.18:2 it uses the term hateful bird does anyone know what hateful bird could be referring to? |
Bible Answer: Hello mountionmam, The ESV reads, "...a haunt for every unclean bird," The YLT reads, "... a hold of every unclean and hateful bird" Keep in mind Revelation is a prophetic book and contains much imagery. We have an angel announcing the fall of Babylon. With a cursory reading, it doesn't appear any specific birds are being referred to (also see 19:17, 21). The Bible Knowledge Commentary offer this note: "What is pictured here is a large prosperous city, the center of political and economic life. The judgment of God makes it a home for demons and a haunt for every evil spirit, a haunt for every unclean and detestable bird. For all the nations have drunk the maddening wine of her adulteries. This false religion is like a drug that drives men to madness. While it brought riches to merchants, it is now doomed for destruction." I hope this helps, BradK |
