NASB | 1 John 5:1 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and whoever loves the Father loves the child born of Him. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 John 5:1 Everyone who believes [with a deep, abiding trust in the fact] that Jesus is the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed) is born of God [that is, reborn from above--spiritually transformed, renewed, and set apart for His purpose], and everyone who loves the Father also loves the child born of Him. |
Bible Question: What does this mean in everyday language? |
Bible Answer: The first lesson being taught is that in order to become a child of God a person has to believe in Jesus Christ. 'To as many as received Him, to them gave He the right to become the children of God, even to those who believe on His Name -- who are thereby born of God' (John 1.12-13). The second lesson is that if we have become children of God we will love our Father. The third lesson is that if Christians love the Father then they will love all His children. We cannot claim to love the Father if we treat His children badly or are unkind to them. It would be to indicate that our love for the Father was not genuine. |
