NASB | 1 John 3:9 No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 John 3:9 No one who is born of God [deliberately, knowingly, and habitually] practices sin, because God's seed [His principle of life, the essence of His righteous character] remains [permanently] in him [who is born again--who is reborn from above--spiritually transformed, renewed, and set apart for His purpose]; and he [who is born again] cannot habitually [live a life characterized by] sin, because he is born of God and longs to please Him. |
Subject: does this mean we aren't born of God. |
Bible Note: 1 John 3:8 says if we claim to be without sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. Quest Bible states.why can't we be free of sin? some believe we can live a sinless life of perfection(Rom 6:6) others say while perfection is not possible this side of life, a changed life is (2 Cor 5:17). some people speak of the varying effects of sin, concluding that we can be free from the penalty and the oppressive power of sin, but as long as we remain in a fallen world, they say, we will continue to confront the presence of sin. |
