Bible Question: What does it mean, "if we keep His commandments"? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Asis! This is one of those questions which could evoke lots of opinions. :-) Was John referring to the ten commandments, the Law of Moses? Was he inferring that one must obey these commands to be saved? Fortunately though, John himself tells us exactly what he means when he says that we must keep His commandments. Here is what John says in 1 John 3:23-24: "And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. 24 Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us." So, the answer is conclusive that we must believe in Christ and love one another. These are the commands to which John is referring. I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
