NASB | 1 John 2:2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 John 2:2 And He [that same Jesus] is the propitiation for our sins [the atoning sacrifice that holds back the wrath of God that would otherwise be directed at us because of our sinful nature--our worldliness, our lifestyle]; and not for ours alone, but also for [the sins of all believers throughout] the whole world. |
Subject: The 'Kosmos' in 1 John |
Bible Note: Greetings CDBJ! One point I forgot to include in my response to Lionstrong was the following (hopefully you see this my friend, if not I'll include it later): Romans 1 makes the point that God's wrath is agains the pagan or the Gentile. Romans 2 makes the point that God's wrath is also against the Jew, who has the Law but violates it anyway. Romans 3 makes the point that we are all sinners, but Jesus has appeased God's wrath against us through His death. Now, we can be reconciled to Him, if we accept the gift of salvation. In line with what your saying, I always tell people that the only sin which will send you to hell is to reject Christ. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
