Subject: Confession of Sin |
Bible Note: Confession of Sin ************************** "If we say that we have no sin.." This is the second false claim (the first was in verse 6)- that we have no sin. This claim contends that our sin nature does not exist! If we say this, then we deceive ourselves (2 Chr. 6:36; Eccl. 7:20; Rom. 3:23; John 9:41). If someone never admits to being a sinner, then salvation cannot result (Matt. 19:16-22). To have no sin is to have no need of a Savior, which would make the coming of Jesus unnecessary. The truth is in God's revelation, which says just the opposite! "Jesus said to them, 'If you were blind, you would have no sin; but since you say, 'We see,' your sin remains.'" (John 9:41) Therefore, a believer in Christ who has true fellowship with God (walking in the light), will acknowledge and repent of the sinful nature that dwells within them, which is revealed by the light. - Nolan |
