AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Peter 1:10 Therefore, believers, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you [be sure that your behavior reflects and confirms your relationship with God]; for by doing these things [actively developing these virtues], you will never stumble [in your spiritual growth and will live a life that leads others away from sin]; |
Bible Question: Please explain the words stumble and fall in 2Peter 1:10. There is a big difference in the two words. Every Christian stumbles if to stumble means to sin. What could someone fall from? Grace? |
Bible Answer: God's day to you, nohunt, Tim would do a better job in this, but I'll give my notes. There is only the word stumble here, tho some translations say stumble or fall. In the Greek it is ... ou (never) me (not) ptaisete (2 PAAS)(stumble) pote (once) We could read it ... no not once will you stumble. (The double negative is first). It is eternal security. We will sin (I think about 1 John), yet we will not be in the habit of sin. Stumble (ptaio)(Strong's 4417) means literally to loose one's footing and so to fall, stumble or “to be tripped up”. To lose one’s footing. Romans 11:11 has stumble and fall ... "I say then, they did not stumble so as to fall" Fall (pipto) (Strong's 4098) to descend from a higher place to a lower ... ptaio is a form of pipto. Searcher |
