NASB | 1 Peter 5:5 You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Peter 5:5 Likewise, you younger men [of lesser rank and experience], be subject to your elders [seek their counsel]; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another [tie on the servant's apron], for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD [the disdainful, the presumptuous, and He defeats them], BUT HE GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE. [Prov 3:34] |
Subject: punishment |
Bible Note: He doesn't "punish" us but he does chastise, or rebuke, or correct us for our own good. Heb 12:3..."My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD, or be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; For whom the LORD loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives". We even do this to each other: "All Scriptue is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work" 2 Tim 3:16-17 And then Heb 12:11 "Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been rained by it". Therefore does He not chasten us for our good? |
