NASB | 1 Peter 3:6 just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, and you have become her children if you do what is right without being frightened by any fear. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Peter 3:6 just as Sarah obeyed Abraham [following him and having regard for him as head of their house], calling him lord. And you have become her daughters if you do what is right without being frightened by any fear [that is, being respectful toward your husband but not giving in to intimidation, nor allowing yourself to be led into sin, nor to be harmed]. |
Bible Question: Food for thought... Keep in mind Prov 16:18 regarding pride and a haughty spirit. Here is my question: Have you ever wondered how Sara, Abraham's wife, at 90 yrs old was so beautiful that Abimelech king of Gerar took her for his wife? Do you think she used the plants of her day for makeup or hair color? The NT tells us of the spirit inside of Sarah, how she called Abraham Lord / mater and obeyed him, 1 peter 3:6. I know that men like their women to look good so don't you think Sarah may have been wanting to please her husband in this area also? Thoughts? |
Bible Answer: HMM - Whereas this whole thread is of the tongue-in-cheek variety, inasmuch as the answer to the question is not remotely dealt with in Scripture, I presume that no indelible harm would ensue if one proffered the notion that old Abimelech's eyesight was so compromised by presbyopia or his perception so distorted by too much wine that he thought Sarah was a nubile teen-ager. Of course, one should not rule out the possibility that Sarah regularly visited her local Neiman Marcus store and loaded up on Estee Lauder cosmetics. It's hard to find an authorative reference to back all this up, but I'm looking. --Hank |
