NASB | 1 Peter 2:20 For what credit is there if, when you sin and are harshly treated, you endure it with patience? But if when you do what is right and suffer for it you patiently endure it, this finds favor with God. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Peter 2:20 After all, what kind of credit is there if, when you do wrong and are punished for it, you endure it patiently? But if when you do what is right and patiently bear [undeserved] suffering, this finds favor with God. |
Bible Question: Jesus grew up in a four-fold way in Luke 2:40-52. What is this four-fold way |
Bible Answer: Greetings, the "four-fold way": wisdom, stature, favor with God, and favor with man, are perhaps what you are thinking about here. If this is how Jesus grew, and God is in the process of transforming us into His likeness, (Rom 12:2; 2 Cor 3:18)we too should see evidence of this happening in our lives too. As I consider this verse, I find that I am focusing on the word "favor." charis; a prim. word; grace, kindness:--blessing(1), concession(1), credit(3), favor(11), gift(1), grace(122), gracious(2), gracious work(3), gratitude(1), thank(3), thankfulness(2), thanks(6). Please note the reference in 1 Peter 2:20 of what brings "favor" with God. How do you think Jesus grew in "favor with men?" How do we grow in favor with men? (the aroma of Christ comes to mind here 2 Cor 2:14) The idea of "grew" or increase is to progress. I suspect that His wisdom and stature or maturity might be the understanding of the human predicament He found Himself in. Heb 2:14-18; 4:15-16. How do we grow in wisdom or understanding (James 1:5) and maturity? (see Heb 5:11-14) Blessings, mommapbs |
