NASB | 1 Peter 1:1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, ¶ To those who reside as aliens, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, who are chosen |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Peter 1:1 Peter, an apostle (special messenger, personally chosen representative) of Jesus Christ, To those [elect--both Jewish and Gentile believers] who live as exiles, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia [Minor], and Bithynia, who are chosen [Heb 13:14] |
Bible Question:
According to Gal. 2:9 it was agreed that Peter would have his ministry to the Jews, while Paul's ministry would be to the gentiles. With this in mind, when Peter writes in 1 Pet.1 "to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia," Can we assume that he was writing to Jewish believers? Setonahill |
Bible Answer: Setonahill, I think it's very clear from the content of the first three verses that he is speaking to born again believers. Other than that, scripture doesn't say. I'd be very careful not to make assumptions about what scripture doesn't say. By the way their ministries where not exclusive to the two groups. One example in Act's is Paul preaching to jews in the temple. John |
