Bible Note: Greetings Ray! The phrase in 2 Sam. 8:13 is a little different than in 2 Sam. 7:23, but I think they both refer to 'establising a reputation' in the eyes of others based upon the things one has accomplished. So, God was making a name for Himself in 2 Sam. 7:23, while David made a name for himself in 2 Sam. 8:13. I don't think that 2 Sam. 7:23 actually includes the pronoun 'himself'. However, every translation does render the phrase, 'make a name for Himself'. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
