Bible Question:
Can anyone help me with a few Biblical references on the worldly nature of gambling. Do Christians do it ? Do Christians talk about doing it ? How do you help someone struggling with it? |
Bible Answer: There isn’t an 11th Commandment that says ‘thou shalt not gamble’. However, according to the 4th chapter of James, 17th verse, it stipulates that if we know the right thing to do and do not do it, it is sin. All that we have, God entrusted it to us. What we do with what we have depends on the type of servants that we are. We will be held accountable for our actions and our decisions. When God ask us about that which He entrusted unto us, are we going to tell Him we lost it gambling?? There’s a parable told by Jesus in Matt. 25:14. The lazy servant did not gamble his master’s belonging away, but at the same time, neither did he do that which was right. Do Christians gamble and talk about it?? Yes they do. I know several Christians that like to play the lottery. I do not doubt their salvation because of it, because I know that all Christians struggle with something. Playing the lottery is there struggle. I’m not aware of much that I can do about it other than pray for them. They do not see a problem with it. If they cannot see the problem, then the problem do not exist as far as they can see. The CurtMan |
