Bible Question: how we ofend others with our mouths |
Bible Answer: Scripture also uses the concept of spoken words as a metaphor to describe the heart. For example, Matthew 4:4 - Jesus answered, "It is written: "Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God." In this case, the Word of God reveals the heart of God. Psalm 59:12 - "For the sins of their mouths, for the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride." Again, their words reveal their heart. Matthew 12:36 - "But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned." There are many, many similar verses. Words reflect the heart of man. If our words are offensive, our heart is without love... the greatest affront to the greatest gift. Blessings Curt |
