NASB | James 3:2 For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body as well. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | James 3:2 For we all stumble and sin in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says [never saying the wrong thing], he is a perfect man [fully developed in character, without serious flaws], able to bridle his whole body and rein in his entire nature [taming his human faults and weaknesses]. |
Bible Question: I don't understand James 3:2, We (humans) can't be perfect can we? On;y Jesus Christ was perfect and sinless but became sin for us because we are not perfect, we are sinners. Can someone explain this verse to me? Thanks |
Bible Answer: James 3:1 says, "Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment." James 3:2 says, "For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body as well". It is actually saying the opposite. He is saying that we aren't perfect and that those who teach will be under stricter judgement if they sin, but we all sin. Fortunately, Jesus took all of our sins upon himself so that we wouldn't have to pay the price of eternal damnation. |
