Bible Question:
Disciplerami, I have a question The Jew’s, according to the notes in this verse in John, “They answered him, "We are Abraham's descendants[ 8:33 Greek seed; also in verse 37] and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?"” considered themselves to be Abraham’s seed. Now according to, “ Gal 3: 28There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.” We are Abraham’s seed. In a previous post you wrote, “If you believe men are depraved, then you have to believe that the Cross of Jesus Christ and the Glory of Creation are ineffectual at changing anyone. The only change possible, according to such types, is with a miraculous intervention at an elected time in the person's life. That is if you believe the other side.” Now my question is this, when did I or you become Abraham’s seed? When we were first born or during a miraculous intervention at an elected time in our lives? philemcc |
Bible Answer: Greetings, There are some who believe that men are so depraved that they cannot become a Christian without the Holy Spirit, out of the blue, knocking the depraved sinner on the head. Pow, the guy is regenerated and then suddenly all the lights come on. Suddenly he reads the Bible and it makes sense. This is not how God works. We become the seed of Abraham when we, as sinners, unregenerate, believe and obey the Gospel. You mention verse 28, but verses 3:26,27 says that 'we are sons of God through faith, for all of who are baptized into Christ have clothed themselves with Christ.' We become the seed of Abraham at baptism. God bless, Disciplerami |
