Bible Question: Would someone tell me what is this verse really saying? |
Bible Answer: Hello queendee, The meaning of the verse is pretty clear on it's own. The ESV reads: "...not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near." The Amplified version says, "Not forsaking or neglecting to assemble together [as believers], as is the habit of some people, but admonishing (warning, urging, and encouraging) one another, and all the more faithfully as you see the day approaching." Warren Wiersbe writes, "The boldness we have in heaven ought to lead to spiritual growth and dedication on earth. It seems that these believers, because of trials, were neglecting Christian fellowship and the mutual encouragement that believers need from each other. Since Christ is our high priest, and we are a kingdom of priests (1 Peter 2:9), we ought to assemble together for common worship, teaching, and service. The OT Jew could not enter the tabernacle, and the high priest could not enter the holy of holies whenever he pleased. But, through Christ’s sacrifice, we have a living way into heaven. We can come to God at any time. Do we take advantage of this privilege?" I hope this helps, BradK |
