Bible Question: Please explain the defination of canon? How it was formed? What does the canon is closed mean? |
Bible Answer: You question is too much for a response on this forum, but maybe I can get you started. The canon is short for "Canon of Scripture." These are the books of the Bible that are considered by the Church to be authoritative and inspired by the Spirit of God. Protestants accept the 66 books found in the translation connected with this forum. The canon was finalized during the fourth century after the Christian church was given legitimacy by Constantine. Over the pervious years, the canon of Scripture had been debated book by book, but most were included already by all. The canon being closed means that the debate is over as far as the organized church is concerned. Of course it never is with individuals. It's a fascinating study if you have the time. MJH |
