Subject: How does God speak to us? |
Bible Note: Dear Dr. Aixen, I do not see any insults being hurled at you. I do not see anyone despising the brethren. Please point out such behavior. The Word of God was never designed to comfort us in our presuppositions. It can be very uncomfortable, indeed, especially when we cannot mold it into saying what makes us feel good. Brother Kalos is a long standing member of the Assemblies of God. I am Reformed Baptist. Kalos and I do not affirm the same doctrines on everything. However, he is a dear and beloved brother who demonstrates the love of Christ in each of his posts. (The more you get to know the Lord God, the more you find yourself imitating Him, and loving those things that He loves.) Kalos, CDBJ, WOS, Hank, Makarios, SrBaegon, BradK, Mark Seyler, and many others come from a broad spectrum of doctrinal backgrounds. Nevertheless, we are united in this forum. It is a Study Bible Forum. It is not a Study Experience Forum. It is not a Study Counseling Forum. It is a place where the body of Christ gathers to deliberate over one of the most valuable gifts that God, in His divine providence, mercy, and grace has given us: the Scriptures. Please do not try to promote disunity, sir. We are all different men and women, but we are united by an act of God (Ephesians 2). Therefore, join us in our affirmation of the authority of Scripture, and come learn with us as we dig deep into the Word. Please join us in the promotion of the agenda for which the forum was created! In Him, Doc PS If you would like to start your own forum on Counseling... and if it is Biblically based... I'd love to participate. I'm sure there is much that I can learn from you. "I am not permitted to let my love be so merciful as to tolerate and endure false doctrine. When faith and doctrine are concerned and endangered, neither love nor patience are in order.... when these are concerned, neither toleration nor mercy are in order, but only anger, dispute, and destruction -- to be sure, only with the Word of God as our weapon." --Martin Luther "... the testimony of the Spirit is more excellent than all reason. For God alone is a fit witness to himself in His Word, so also the Word will not find acceptance in men's hearts before it is sealed by the inward testimony of the Spirit. The same Spirit, therefore, who has spoken through the mouths of the prophets must penetrate into our hearts to persuade us that they faithfully proclaim what has been divinely commanded… By this power we are drawn and inflamed, knowingly and willingly, to obey him, yet also more vitally and more effectively than by mere human willing or knowing." --John Calvin "Take heed... The devil is a greater scholar than you!" --Richard Baxter "Showing mercy to the wolf is showing cruelty to the sheep." --Unknown Puritan "The Reformers, and particularly John Calvin, stressed the way the objective, written Word and the inner, supernatural ministry of the Holy Spirit work together, the Holy Spirit illuminating the Word to God's people. The Word without the illumination of the Holy Spirit remains a closed book." --James M. Boice "God has specially revealed Himself to man and preserved that propositional revelation in his written word. Just as our fallen nature demands special revelation, so also our fallen nature demands the work of the Holy Spirit if that propositional revelation is to be understood. The hearer must be regenerated and illumined." --Bob Burridge "Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long!" Psalm 119:97 "Truly, I love your commands more than gold, even the finest gold!" Psalm 119:127 "Your decrees are my treasure; they are truly my heart's delight!" Psalm 119:111 "To a spiritual mind, sweet and soul-rewarding is the searching of the Word as for hidden treasure. "No sweeter, no better employment can engage heart and hands than, in the spirit... of prayer and meditation, of separation from the world, of holy fear, of a desire to know the will of God and do it, of humility, simplicity, and godly sincerity, to seek to enter into those heavenly mysteries which are stored up in the Scriptures; and this, not to furnish the head with notions, but to feed the soul with the bread of life! "Truth, received in the love and power of it... informs and establishes the judgment, softens and melts the heart, warms and draws upward the affections, makes and keeps the conscience alive and tender, is the food of faith, is the strength of hope, is the mainspring of love." --J. C. Philpot "My child, listen to Me and treasure My instructions. Search for them as you would for lost money or hidden treasure!" Proverbs 2:1,4 |
