Bible Question: Why is it believed that Philemon is in Colosse? How far was Colosse from Rome? |
Bible Answer: I would assume one reason is that tradition has him as the bishop of that city. Also, Colossians 4:18 speaks of Archippus, which he is spoken of in the greeting of Philemon. We can make some conclusions, Philemon and Archippus was in the same place, Colossians was written to the Christians in Colosse (Colossae), Philemon and Colossians is believed to be written at the same time (partially due to the names that are mentioned in Colossians 4). So putting everything together, it is concluded that Philemon is from Colosse. Brad (Maybe someone can give us a better answer, but this is the best I can do) |
