NASB | Titus 1:9 holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Titus 1:9 He must hold firmly to the trustworthy word [of God] as it was taught to him, so that he will be able both to give accurate instruction in sound [reliable, error-free] doctrine and to refute those who contradict [it by explaining their error]. |
Bible Question: Is all new doctrine false doctrine? I saw this idea stated as a fact and used to refute pre-trib teaching. Does Titus 1:9 indicate that all doctrine is to be treated as a body of truth that is passed from believer to believer? Or is the Bible to be interpreted and new doctrines developed over time? Any additional verses which address this? |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Acts 17:11, Gal 1:6 (context vv 6-9) ... Listener, I would add these two. -Check out what is said against Scripture. -Look at the context (the verse, passage, chapter, book and the whole Bible). -If you think there is a problem, speak up. -The speaker needs to prove their point with Scripture ... or else correct themselves -The recheck them. Hope this helps, Searcher |
