Bible Question:
Why do the Bible translators mis-translate 2 Thess 2:7? In every Greek translation I have, it reads, "For the mystery of lawlessness already is working, only he is holding back now till OUT OF THE MIDST IT COMES”. But the way it’s translated into English, it says "until he is taken away”. The “Strong” numbers 3319 and 1096 spell out exactly what the Greek renders. It makes a big difference. |
Bible Answer: Greetings Taleb! First of all, to which Greek translations are you referring? Secondly, I'm not sure why it was translated as 'it' instead of 'he'? The verb (1096) can be either, but the subject of the sentence (the participle (2722)) is most definitely masculine. So, I would say that the masculine reading would make more sense in the context of the verse. As for (3319), all of the lexicons I have list the meaning of this particular phrase as 'being removed'. So, I'm not clear as to why you consider this a mis-translation. Could you spell it out more clearly? Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
