NASB | Deuteronomy 25:5 ¶ "When brothers live together and one of them dies and has no son, the wife of the deceased shall not be married outside the family to a strange man. AMPLIFIED 2015 | Deuteronomy 25:5 ¶ "If brothers are living together and one of them dies without a son, the widow of the deceased shall not be married outside the family to a stranger. Bible Note: Cheri- thanks for the info. Yes, of course...it was the seed spilling that was the point. His deceit was pretty much complete at that point. As for the first born issue, it seems clear that the point of the law was to ensure the carrying on of the name of the deceased brother and not his own (but I wasn't focused on that and so haven't really dug into it). Thanks again, Jeff |
