Bible Question: I have a friend who is a Christian whose father recently committed suicide, my friend says that she is "a part of her fathers sin", I do not understand this concept and wonder if it is based on her beliefs as a Christian. Could anybody help me out on this question as I would like to be of help to my friend but I need to understand why she thinks this way. |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Exo 34:7, Jos 7:2-26; Deu 24:16; Luk 11:50-51 ... chipmunk, greetings. Fathers have a great responsibility. What we do will affect our children. Some point to Exodus 34:7 to say we can be punished for our father's sin. Achan's sin caused the death of his children (Jos 7:2-26). There are other specific examples. It is not Biblical to say one is "a part of her fathers sin". Jesus cited an example of people carrying out the sins of their fathers (Luk 11:50-51). The bottom line is that we will die because of our own sins (Deu 24:16). We also need to be accept Christ ourselves and not say we are saved, because of our father's salvation. Searcher |
