Bible Question: Ezekiel 18:8,13,17 warn against charging interest. How does this apply to the banking industry? I think not, but what are the differences? What about a small payday loan for a co-worker? |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Exo 22:25; Lev 25:35-37; Deu 23:19-20; Psa 15:5; Pro 28:8; Eze 18:8,13,17, 22:21 Greetings TIMOTHY PAUL, The banking industry is not under God's laws, if they are not Chritians. Israelites were allowed to charge interest to foreigners (Deu 23:20). They were forbibben to charge interest to the poor (Exo 22:25; Lev 25:35-37; Deu 23:19). Ezekiel condemns usuary (18:8,13,17, 22:21) and this is seen elsewhere (Psa 15:5; Pro 28:8). In the NASB, Ezekiel 18:13 says "He lends money on interest and takes increase; will he live?" ... which if correct means the interest cannot be lent. If you want to loan money to a co-worker I'd consult Larry Burkett at www.crown.org/ or another Christian in this industry. Hope this helps, Searcher |
