Bible Question: I am currently in the process of researching Deuteronomy (if that's how you spell it) and I'm on 15:17 and I was wondering, what is the significane of peircing the ear to the door with an Awl? |
Bible Answer: Hi, UZ... By this act a freed slave voluntarily became a permanent bondservant (cf Exodus 21:6). Slaves were freed in the year jubilee. However, they weren't just given their freedom and sent away. They were provided with the means of subsistence in order to become self sufficient. If they chose, because of love for the family, they could commit themselves to permanent servitude. In Him, Doc |
