AMPLIFIED 2015 | Ephesians 6:4 ¶ Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger [do not exasperate them to the point of resentment with demands that are trivial or unreasonable or humiliating or abusive; nor by showing favoritism or indifference to any of them], but bring them up [tenderly, with lovingkindness] in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. |
Subject: How should fathers treat their children? |
Bible Note: Thanks, Searcher56! I appreciate the quick response. I was looking for more on the respect and love fathers should show. I think this father, and many like him, are so wrapped up in using the rod and coming down on their kids they don't know how to temper it with love. Here's what I've given him so far: NIV Ephesians 6:4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. NIV Ephesians 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. (This is for all Christians, including fathers!) NIV Proverbs 13:22 A good man leaves an inheritance for his children's children, but a sinner's wealth is stored up for the righteous. NIV Proverbs 14:26 He who fears the LORD has a secure fortress, and for his children it will be a refuge. NIV Proverbs 20:7 The righteous man leads a blameless life; blessed are his children after him. |
