Bible Question: please explain what does it mean do not grieve the holyspirit |
Bible Answer: Greetings ssv.1 Grieve comes from the Greek word "lupeo" which means: to distress; reflexively or passively, to be sad:--cause grief, grieve, be in heaviness, (be) sorrow(-ful), be (make) sorry. If we read all around that verse, (start around verse 14 and read through to the end of the chapter)such as in the context of, we see that it refers to believers, who grieve the Spirit by inconsistencies as in corrupt or worthless conversation, 31)“Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:” The Holy Spirit does not teach that and does not want to hear it or see it. "we must not do that which is contrary to his holy nature and his will; we must not refuse to hearken to his counsels, nor rebel against his government, which things would provoke him to act towards us as men are wont to do towards those with whom they are displeased and grieved," MH Love in Christ bgg |
